A story of passion, guilt and anger!

Book Description:
Can place hold the secret to happiness? In his quest for a sanctuary away from the demands and pressures of Johannesburg, Justin Marshall buys land in the rugged lowveld wilderness, hoping that it will serve as a sanctuary for his daughter who has been left partially disabled due to his negligence – perhaps for himself too.

In his battle with guilt and broken relationships, he pits himself against the harsh environment, gradually learning what the demands of nature are. In the process he finds love again, and is able to restore dignity to his daughter’s life.

Disruptive forces, however, conspire against everything he has so lovingly created, and after a series of tragedies, he is forced to take stock of his views on life. What can account for the brutal change of fortune? What the harsh arrows are that determine all.
Arrows of the Universe is a story of passion, guilt and anger. It is one person’s cry for meaning and healing in a seemingly hostile world of random events.
About the Author:
Tolstoy’s spirituality in War and Peace and the diverse books of Duma’s Count of Monte Christo and Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, both about life’s injustices, helped shape Patrick McGaffin’s life.

His childhood was spent with friends in the African bush, and his ticket around the world was as a galley boy on ships, or slumming it between lectures.

Other than first-year university English, Patrick has had no formal training in literature. He attended five different universities, studying the sciences and economics, without completing a degree. Patrick came close to being jailed for refusing to do military service. Later he started the D.A. Party (Democratic Alliance) in Limpopo Province where he now lives on the old family farm.
