My book tells my unique story where I relate the trials and triumphs from parts of my journey of fighting prostate cancer, its related complications of acute renal failure and the complications of the late side-effects of cancer treatments. In my book I acknowledge and highlight the value of maintaining good relationships.
‘n Woning in ‘n hoë sekuriteitsgebied in Suid-Afrika is nie altyd so veilig soos die inwoners vermoed nie. Hierdie realiteit vorm die basis vir die storie van ontvoering en eensame opsluiting in ‘n donker kelder vir gewelddadige en onheilspellende redes. Die kelder is ‘n vuil en somber plek waar die gevangene stadig wegkwyn van eensaamheid en wanvoeding. Die polisie het min leidrade en hulle ondersoek vorder stadig.
Child minding is one responsibility which is generally taken lightly. Child minders are often employed in a casual manner. Frequently there is no synchronisation between the parenting style used by the child minder and that adopted by the biological parent/s. Conscious investment is usually not made in the emotional well-being of the child minder.
The poems contained in this collection are warm and sincere and filled with soothing hope. In her dedication, the author refers to her poetry as a ‘small beacon of light’ for ‘anyone suffering from the physical weight of depression’. The words seem to float up through a limpid pool.
The world is ending. People, animals, plants – there is a universal dying-off of the planet. Rumours persist of a reprieve but none appears. Two dogs and their human companions bond, as they trace a vivid circuit in a region not dissimilar to Cape Town; they encounter the violence and decay as they travel, struggling to survive. It’s a tough passage through societies of degradation and unsettled by a war beyond the mountains that encircle them.
