ORPHANED, WITH LIVING PARENTS

Many thousands of South African children are brought up by their grandmothers. This is one of the many manifestations of an unstable and distraught society, where the mother to child bond is too often broken, causing pain and a deep-seated sense of loss to both parties. Each Gogo-raised child’s story is different, but the general theme is the same: it deals with abandonment, with only qualified acceptance, but most of all with the simple absence of a real mother presence. The title of Vanessa Neo Mathope’s book – Orphaned, with Living Parents – tells it all. A monstrous imbalance has occurred, and the consequences run deep.

The 21st Century Business...

The 21st century business model isn’t perfect, but it’s better than languishing in the never-ending unemployment queues. 21st century entrepreneurs can choose to work from home. They can even change countries without changing their source of income.

From this book you will learn all about the current and coming threats to job security and why you should consider becoming being entrepreneurial. There’s a chapter on the three common ways people get into entrepreneurship, and another on how to become and remain a 21st century entrepreneur. There are a couple of bonuses too. Find out why you should care about Bitcoin, and what on earth is DeFi? Apart, that is, from being new-speak for decentralised finance.

THE WAUCHOPES -...

This book tells the story of the Wauchopes, a Xhosa family who rose to prominence in  the late 18th and early 19th centuries through the exploits of their patriarch, the Reverend Isaac Williams Dyobha Wauchope. Although this talented and restless man died heroically when serving as chaplain the troopship SS Mendi sank in 1917 after a collision off the Isle of Wight, taking more than 600 black South African troops to their deaths, it Is his life and work prior to his military service with which this book is concerned.

The Yogi Who Sold His...

Greg Margolis (founder of NYPD Security) was for decades intimately involved in dealing with ‘random victims’ of crime or conflict, whether the victim was an individual, a family or even someone close to the victim(s), in many instances if they  could, they often chose to leave the country ‒ this included the vast majority of Greg's extended family.

But Greg embodied the antithesis of a victim mentality – and chose to stay in SA, founding a non-profit security company in the late 90's, which then later expanded and evolved into a commercial security service provider in Johannesburg.
