The book is not just generalistic. It is based on credible insights from published PhD research results, interviews from executives of international companies that have been involved in setting up and running businesses in Africa as well as views from locals that give tips on how it is doing business in their own countries. In addition, the author gives her own views as she has spent five years implementing strategic project in some key markets for one of the big-four South African banks.

The book was inspired by PhD research done by the author on South African companies that expanded their operations into other countries on the African continent. Some have succeeded and built very successful businesses, but others have failed dismally on their African expansion journeys. The book is a consolidation of:

·         Research insights from both the survey and case studies. This includes comments and nuggets of knowledge from executives that are involved in the expansion and set up of operations in other African countries.

·         Views from locals and local competitors that see businesses set up in their markets and suggestions of what they think foreign companies need to do when they set up operations in those respective markets.

·         The personal experiences from the author as she worked and traveled in different countries on the continent. She also shared her final thoughts on what companies need to do to succeed in doing business in Africa.

In summary, the book includes insights such as:

·         What to expect during the planning and identification of markets.

·         Considerations during the implementation and setting up of the business.

·         Whether to go it alone or with a partner.

·         How to choose a partner.

·         How to make it work in the chosen market.
